October 9th:
Important News!
The
2008-2009 GHRA Schedule was designed as the best
solution to minimize "travel" games for teams away from their home
rink, and it also matches teams against their own division (3A-4A-5A)
as much
as possible, while still minimizing travel and not have teams play the
same
team too many times. Also we
had to work around block-out dates at both venues, make sure the Home
team
played it’s home games at it’s home rink, try to
spread each team’s games out
through the seasons, and then work around the mountain of requests
received
from coaches working around school functions and other events. It
actually
takes more time to move and work around games than it does to run out
the
original schedule. So below is a
breakout by division of the
logic of the schedules of each division.
1A
Division
(12
Teams)
Each team
plays every other team at least once, and 3 of
the teams twice for 14 games. All games count in the
standings. Every team
plays in the State Tournament and will be seeded according to the
standings.
2A
East and 2A West
(8
teams in each
division)
Each team
plays every other team in their East or West
division twice for a total of 14 games. Obviously all games
count in the
standings.
There will be
NO East teams playing any West teams in the regular
season. For the tournament, we will pair up the
highest West seed with the
lowest East seed, and so on.
VARSITY
DIVISION
(16
teams)
The maximum
number of games between two teams is 3, and no
varsity team should have more than 2 travel games, with most teams
having one
or zero games away from their home rink. In the Varsity
Division we also tried
to minimize the times that 3A teams play 4A & 5A teams, yet at
the same
time give the 4A and 5A teams a schedule that matched them up as much
as
possible. This took many, many hours of trial and error because this
had to be
done by hand and cross checked over and over to find the
solution. We finally
formulated a suitable matrix accomplishing what we wanted.
Unfortunately
Pointstreak will not allow cross division play so ALL 16 teams are
combined in
one division so the standings and stats will reflect that.
But obviously the
teams will be split out by Division at the end of the season for the
State
Championships in each division with all teams playing. Below
is the format
around which the schedule was built:
Varsity
Division East - 8 teams in
the division, with 5 3A teams, 2 4A teams, and 1 5A team.
The
five 3A East teams play 2 of the 3A East teams twice and
the other 2 3A East teams 3 times, the 4A/5A East teams once, and one
game
against one of the 3A West teams.
The
two 4A East teams play the 4A/5A East times three times each,
the 5 3A East teams once, the 4A West team twice, and the 5A West team
once.
The
5A East team plays the 2 4A East teams 3 times, the 5 3A East
teams once, the 4A West team once, and the 5A West team twice
Varsity
Division West - 8 teams in the division, with 6 3A
teams, 1 4A
team, and 1 5A team.
The six
3A West teams play 4 of the 3A West teams
twice and one 3A West team 3 times, and the 4A West team
once. Five of
the 3A West teams play the 5A West team once, and one game against one
of the
3A East teams. One of the 3A West teams play the 5A
West team twice.
The
4A West team plays the 5A West times three times, the 2 4A
East teams twice, the 5A East team once, and the 6 3A
West teams
once.
The
5A West team plays the 4A West team 3 times, the 5A East team
twice, five of 3A West teams once, one of the 3A West
teams
twice, and the 2 4A East teams once.
Varsity
Divisions East and West will be combined into one division in
Pointstreak.

The 2008-2009 GHRA Schedule has
been fully completed
& is now "set in stone"!
In what has to be
record time, the full GHRA games schedule has been
set and is now posted on Pointstreak. To access it, please go to your
division's web pages on the Pointstreak Site. The Schedule has now been
removed from this site to avoid any confusion.
October 8th:
The 2008 - 2009 GHRA Schedule Is
HERE!!!
As
it is with the start of every season, this is the first of what we're
sure will be
an on-going process for a bit. The schedule will undergo changes until
we have it tweaked to just about as perfect we can make it. We will try
to accomodate everyone's requests, but please realize that we have to
take into consideration a number of factors when we make changes.
For your convenience, the schedule page has been kept simplistic to
make it easier for you to print out for review. DO NOT MAKE
COPIES OF THIS SCHEDULE FOR DISTRIBUTION!!!
Please notice that for reference, there is a version number of the
schedule so you'll know which schedule is the most current.
The
current schedule is:
Version
1.0
October
8, 2008; 4:30pm
For the next few days, the rule of
thumb is to please check the
schedule as often as possible! As in previous seasons, once the game
schedule has been fully finalized, it will be posted on Pointstreak and
removed from this site. From the schedule posted on Pointstreak, you
can make copies of the schedule to distribute to your team.

August 22nd:
Welcome
Back! It's that time of year again, time to prepare
for the 2008-2009 GHRA season. We have many things to review
and
organize. Our hope is to begin the administrative processes
early and get
everything settled well before the start of the season. I've
attached the
"2008-2009 GHRA Timeline" for your review. Please
note:
The League Organizational Meeting scheduled for September 3rd, 7:00
p.m. at The
Cooler.
The
new season brings with it several changes. The league
fees are now $2,175.00. An increase of $75.00. This
increase was
put into place to cover the coaches background checks. We
felt it simpler
to incorporate these costs into the League Fees.
We
will continue our partnership with the amateur Athletic Union
(AAU). To get a head start, please have all your players and
coaches
register online with AAU.
www.aausports.org
From
the "Home Page", click on "Join
AAU", then select "Athlete" or "Non Athlete"
tabs. (coaches select non athlete) Both players and coaches
will need to
enter the GHRA Club Code on the registration page, GHRA Club Code:
GAHO4D5KB0.
Once
they have completed the AAU registration, they must now
register with GHRA.
All
coaches must complete the enclosed "Background Check
Form". Please have forms mailed to Glenn Heidkamp at:
Glenn
Heidkamp
2947
Perrington Place
Marietta GA
30066
Forms
must be received before September
24th, 2008. Unlike previous seasons, we will not accept late
forms.
Failure to fulfill this requirement will result in the offending coach
to lose
his GHRA eligibility.
Once
you have completed your team's selection process, please give
an honest evaluation of the team's skill level on the "2008-2009 Team
Assessment Form". Once you have determined which GHRA
Division your
teams is best suited, complete the form and e-mail to Doug Russell, druss22@msn.com,
Ronnie Williams, ramadar@aol.com,
and Glenn Heidkamp, glennh@remacinc.com.
We
look forward to seeing all of you at the Organizational Meeting
September, 3rd.
